Hiryuu No Ken Twin is one of those N64 fighters that flew under the radar but absolutely shouldn’t have. It’s got this weird, satisfying mix of Street Fighter-style moves and over-the-top martial arts action—like if someone took a 90s anime brawl and stuffed it into a cartridge.
You start off picking from these wild characters, each with their own ridiculous special moves. I went for the guy with the flaming dragon punch first (because obviously), but the girl with the twin swords ended up being my main. The controls take a second to click, but once they do, you’re pulling off insane combos while the camera zooms in dramatically like an old kung fu movie.
It’s janky in that classic N64 way, but the energy and sheer style make up for it. The stages are packed with little details too—crowds cheering, destructible objects, even the occasional bystander diving out of the way. If you’re into retro fighters with personality, this one’s a hidden gem.
