Hexen on N64 is one of those weird, moody action-RPGs that feels like Doom but with way more fantasy nonsense. You pick between three classes—fighter, cleric, or mage—and each one plays totally different. The fighter smashes stuff up close, the mage lobs fireballs, and the cleric... well, he’s kind of in-between, throwing weird discs and healing himself. The levels are these massive, confusing labyrinths full of switches, traps, and monsters that pop out of nowhere.
It’s got that classic mid-90s jank—some textures look like melted cheese, and the framerate chugs when too much happens at once—but there’s something weirdly charming about it. The music’s all eerie chanting, and the puzzles actually make you think (or at least wander around lost for 20 minutes). If you liked Heretic or just want something darker than your usual N64 fare, this one’s worth a look.
