Okay, so this is the old-school Game Boy version of Hercules—you know, the one based on the Disney movie. You start off swinging a sword at weird little gremlin things in Thebes, and honestly, the controls take a second to get used to. But once you figure out the timing for those jumps over lava pits (because of course there are lava pits), it’s kinda satisfying.
It’s got that classic side-scrolling thing going on, with some surprisingly decent sprite work for a Game Boy game. You fight hydras, dodge boulders, and yeah, there’s even that training montage level where you’re tossing discs like in the movie. The music’s a tinny but catchy version of the soundtrack, which is either nostalgic or annoying depending on how many times you’ve heard it.
It’s not the hardest game ever, but some of those platforming bits will absolutely wreck you if you’re not paying attention. And look, if you played this as a kid, you’ll probably grin when you hear Hercules yell “HIIII-YAH” in 8-bit. It’s janky in that very specific late-’90s licensed game way, but in a weirdly charming package.
