Heisei Tensai Bakabon is one of those weird, charming Game Boy titles that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this offbeat humor that somehow works even if you don’t catch all the cultural references. You play as Bakabon, this goofy kid with a bowl cut, running around causing chaos in short, puzzle-like stages. The controls are simple (jump, punch, the usual), but the levels throw curveballs at you, like suddenly having to dodge falling anvils or outsmart a teacher who chases you with a ruler.
It’s got that classic early ‘90s Game Boy vibe—monochrome sprites, chiptune music that gets stuck in your head, and just enough jank to remind you it’s a retro game. Some of the puzzles are trial-and-error, but in a way that makes you laugh when you fail. If you’re into quirky Japanese games or just want something different from the usual platformers, this one’s a fun little time capsule.
