Heisei Tensai Bakabon is one of those weird, charming NES games that never left Japan—which is a shame because it’s got this offbeat humor that just sticks with you. You play as Bakabon, this goofy kid with a bowl cut, running around causing chaos in his neighborhood. The controls are a little stiff (classic NES jank), but once you get used to it, there’s something oddly satisfying about bouncing on enemies or chucking random objects at them.
The art style’s got that old-school manga vibe, and the music’s surprisingly catchy for how simple it is. Some of the levels feel like they were designed by someone who had too much coffee—in a good way. You’ll be dodging falling signs, hopping across rooftops, and occasionally just stopping to laugh at how ridiculous everything is.
If you’re into obscure retro games with personality, this one’s a hidden gem. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
