Heiankyou Alien is this weird little Game Boy gem where you dig holes to trap aliens in old-school Kyoto. Sounds simple, right? But then the little buggers start climbing out, and suddenly you're frantically filling in pits while more of them pour onto the screen.
The pixel art has that charmingly janky early Game Boy vibe - all squished sprites and chunky terrain. At first I kept getting swarmed because I dug too many holes at once, but once you get the rhythm of trap-and-fill, it gets surprisingly tense. That moment when three aliens break free at once and you're scrambling to survive? Pure panic.
It's one of those games that feels impossible until it suddenly clicks. Just don't expect any fancy power-ups or elaborate stages - the whole thing runs on pure, simple chaos. Perfect for quick sessions when you want something arcadey but with actual stakes.
