Harvest Moon on the NES is where farming sims really started—no frills, just you, some stubborn soil, and a whole lot of cows that won’t stop staring at you. The first time I played, I spent way too long figuring out how to even plant a turnip (hint: don’t just chuck seeds at the ground).

It’s got that classic pixel charm, but don’t expect modern hand-holding. You’ll water crops by hand, chase runaway chickens, and somehow still get roped into town gossip. The days fly by faster than you’d think, especially when you realize you forgot to feed your dog. Again.

If you’ve only played the newer farming games, this one feels like digging through an old photo album—simple, a little rough, but weirdly comforting. Just watch out for those surprise thunderstorms.
