About Harlem Globe Trotters
Harlem Globetrotters came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, developed by HAL Laboratory. It was a basketball game that stood apart from the more serious sports titles of that era, focusing on the famous exhibition team known for their comedic antics and ball handling skills. You could play as the Globetrotters themselves or their rivals, the Generals, in a straightforward exhibition mode.
You control one of the players on the court, passing and shooting to score baskets. The main objective is simply to win the game, but the real draw is performing the team's signature tricks. You can pull down the referee's pants or trip him during a free throw, adding a layer of slapstick humor to the action. The game supports up to four players if you had the NES Satellite or Four Score accessory, making it a chaotic party option. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty comes more from the unpredictable fun than from deep strategy. It feels like a lighthearted arcade take on basketball, where the goal is to entertain as much as it is to win.
