About Hanjuku Hero (japan)
I first played Hanjuku Hero on the Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1988. It was a Japan only release from Square, the same company that made Final Fantasy. This was during a time when the NES was full of experimental titles, and this one definitely stood out from the usual fantasy adventures.
You control a wobbly, egg shaped hero on a quest to defeat the evil king. The main goal is to explore the world screen by screen, engaging in simple sword combat with enemies you bump into on the map. A key mechanic is that your character can evolve into different forms, like a knight or a dragon, which changes your abilities. The game is surprisingly difficult; you need to manage your limited health carefully as you delve into dungeons and fight bosses. It feels like a strange, charming puzzle where every victory is a small surprise.
