Great Battle Cyber is one of those weird, chaotic NES games that feels like it threw a bunch of anime tropes into a blender. You start off picking from three characters—a cyborg, a ninja, and some dude with a laser sword—and immediately get tossed into side-scrolling mayhem. The controls are a little stiff (it is an old-school NES game), but there’s something oddly satisfying about plowing through waves of robots with a giant energy blade.
It’s got that classic Japanese over-the-top vibe, with explosions everywhere and enemies that just keep coming. The cyborg’s gun feels overpowered at first, but then you realize the ninja’s shurikens actually have better range. Little details like that make it more than just a mindless button-masher. Also, the music slaps—expect lots of synth and drum machine beats that somehow fit perfectly with the cyberpunk chaos.
Definitely a niche pick, but if you’re into retro action games with personality, this one’s a fun time. Just don’t expect a deep story—it’s all about the spectacle.
