About Grand Prix
Grand Prix came out for the original Game Boy in 1990, developed by Human Entertainment and published by Nintendo. It was one of the earlier racing games on the handheld, arriving before the system had a backlit screen or color. You played it in those moments of portable focus, often tilting the cartridge towards a lamp to see the track.
You control a single Formula One car from a top-down perspective. The main goal is straightforward: win each Grand Prix race. The signature mechanics involve managing your car's fuel and tire wear, which deplete during the race and force you into the pits for quick stops. The tracks are narrow and winding, demanding precise steering to avoid walls and other cars. The difficulty is consistent; a single crash can ruin your race, and the computer opponents are relentless. It feels like a constant, tense battle against the track and your own dwindling resources.
