About Gotcha! - The Sport!
Gotcha! The Sport! came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, published by Atlus. It was part of that wave of NES games trying different things, a paintball game before paintball was widely known. You do not see many games like it from that time, which makes it stand out in a library full of platformers and RPGs.
You control a kid running around a maze-like field, trying to shoot opponents with your paintball gun. The main goal is to tag all the other players before they tag you, clearing each screen to advance. The game uses an overhead perspective, and you move screen by screen; you can hide behind barriers and shoot around corners. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents are surprisingly aggressive, making it a challenging match. It feels like a frantic game of tag where a single mistake can end your round.
