Golgo 13 - The Riddle of Icarus is that rare NES sequel that actually improves on the original. You're still playing as the stone-cold assassin Duke Togo, but this time the missions feel tighter—less of the janky platforming from Top Secret Episode, more focus on the sniper sequences and tactical shootouts.
The first mission drops you right into a jungle ambush, and I remember thinking, "Wait, can I actually crawl in this one?" (You can, which makes avoiding bullets way less frustrating.) The sniper sections still have that tense, hold-your-breath feeling where one wrong move blows your cover. And yeah, the cutscenes are still hilariously stiff, but that’s part of the charm.
It’s a Japan-only release, so expect some moonrunes in the dialogue, but the gameplay’s straightforward enough that you won’t get stuck. Just don’t expect the plot to make much sense—it’s Golgo 13, after all.
