About Golf
Golf was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed and published by Nintendo. It was one of the early sports titles on the platform, and it featured Mario as a playable golfer, though his design was different from his usual look; he wore a white and blue outfit. This game arrived when the NES library was still growing, offering a straightforward take on the sport.
You control a golfer, aiming to complete an 18 hole course with the lowest score. Before starting, you choose a game mode: single stroke play, doubles stroke play, or match play for two players. On each hole, you position your golfer, select a club from your bag, and then execute your swing. The swing uses a two step power meter: you press the button to start the meter, then press again to set the power and determine the shot's hook or slice. You must manually choose the right club for each situation, which adds a layer of strategy, especially around hazards and greens. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the controls require some practice to master. It feels like a quiet, thoughtful round of golf, where each shot demands your full attention.
