Golf '92 on the NES is one of those old-school golf games that somehow nails the simple, satisfying feel of whacking a pixelated ball across chunky green fairways. The Japanese version tweaks a few things—mostly menus and some course layouts—but it’s still the same straightforward golf sim you’d expect. No fancy mechanics, just pick your club, adjust your swing power, and pray you don’t land in the sand.
First time I played, I totally underestimated how much wind affects your shot. Spent half the game overshooting the green because I refused to dial back my power. The courses aren’t brutal, but they’ve got enough quirks to keep you from breezing through. That one hole with the tiny island green? Yeah, good luck.
It’s not flashy, but there’s something weirdly addictive about the no-frills gameplay. You’ll either love it or forget it exists after 20 minutes.
