Goemon’s Great Adventure is one of those N64 gems that never got enough love. You play as Goemon (or one of his friends in co-op), bouncing between 2D side-scrolling levels and these weirdly charming 3D overworld sections. The art style’s got this vibrant, almost cartoonish vibe—like if someone took a classic Japanese woodblock print and cranked up the colors.
At first, it feels like a straightforward platformer, but then you hit these levels where you’re riding a giant robot or solving little environmental puzzles, and it just clicks. The co-op’s chaotic in the best way—my friend kept stealing all the power-ups, and I’m still not over it. Also, the soundtrack? Absolute bangers, especially the weirdly intense boss themes.
If you’re into games that don’t take themselves too seriously but still have solid mechanics, this one’s a blast. Just watch out for the occasional janky hitbox—classic N64 charm.
