Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, published by Toho. It was one of the few games that let you control the big guy himself, alongside Mothra, during a time when licensed titles were often simple platformers or beat 'em ups.

You pick either Godzilla or Mothra to fight through a series of planets, moving screen by screen on an overhead map. Each screen is a small battlefield where you punch, tail whip, or use your character's unique projectile, like Godzilla's atomic breath, to defeat smaller enemies and other Toho monsters. Your main goal is to defeat the enemy commander at the end of each world. The game mixes these short combat screens with occasional horizontal shooter segments when traveling between planets. It moves at a deliberate pace, and the difficulty comes from managing your health and energy across many fights. Playing it feels like a methodical march through a monster-filled solar system.
