About Godzilla-kun (japan)
I first played Godzilla-kun on the Game Boy back in 1990, a release from Toho. It was a time when handheld games were simple, often built around a single character or idea, and this one fit right in. You don't see many games starring Godzilla's son, so it always stood out on a shelf full of platformers and puzzle games.
You control Godzilla-kun himself, a small, green, and surprisingly agile version of his famous father. The main goal is to rescue your friend, a little creature named Mogu, who has been kidnapped. You move through levels screen by screen, which feels like navigating a series of interconnected rooms. Your primary actions are a short-range punch and a fire breath attack that you charge up. You also collect power-ups to increase your health and attack strength. The game moves at a quick pace, and some of the platforming can be quite precise, making it tougher than it first appears. It feels like a brisk, challenging scramble from start to finish.
