I picked up Goal! On GB back in 1992, a soccer game Jaleco put out for the Game Boy. It was one of many sports titles trying to fit a decent match into that little green screen, a time when portable gaming was still mostly about simple, quick sessions. You wouldn't get the full teams or elaborate graphics of a console game, but it was soccer you could carry in your pocket.

You control a single player on the field, usually the one nearest the ball, and your main job is to score more goals than the opposing team. The game moves screen by screen, with the perspective shifting as the ball travels up and down the pitch. You pass to teammates, tackle to regain possession, and take shots on goal. The controls are straightforward, but the pacing is fast, and the computer can put up a tough fight, making you work for every scoring chance. It feels like a genuine, condensed match of soccer, where a quick counterattack can change everything in a moment.
