Goal! (Europe) is one of those early '90s soccer games that feels both charmingly simple and frustratingly tough. You pick a J. League team—I always went for Verdy Kawasaki because their green kits stood out on the Game Boy's pea-soup screen—and then it's straight into pixelated matches where every slide tackle feels like a gamble. The controls are basic (pass, shoot, sprint), but the AI defenders somehow read your mind every time you try to break through.
It's got that classic Game Boy sports game vibe where the ball physics are a little wonky, and the crowd noise is just a looping beep track, but there's something weirdly satisfying about scoring a goal after five failed attempts. The overhead view keeps things readable, at least, even if your players sometimes blend into the pitch. Definitely a relic of its time, but if you're into retro soccer games, it's a solid time capsule.
