Go Go Ackman came out in 1994 for the Game Boy, a Banpresto title that arrived when the handheld was full of platformers and action games. You control Ackman, a demon boy whose job is to collect the souls of heroes. The main objective is to fight through side-scrolling stages, defeating angels and other enemies to gather these souls. Signature mechanics include using a sword for close combat and a gun for ranged attacks; you can switch between them depending on the situation. The levels are designed screen by screen, with some light exploration to find hidden items and power-ups. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with enemies attacking from all sides and limited continues. Playing it feels like a frantic scramble where every jump and shot counts.
