About Gimmick! (japan)
Gimmick! came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed and published by Sunsoft. It was a late release for the NES, arriving when many players were already moving to 16-bit consoles, which might explain why it initially slipped under the radar for so many.
You control a small green creature named Yumetaro, navigating through a series of themed worlds. Your main goal is to rescue a child by progressing screen by screen, clearing each area of enemies. Your primary weapon is a star you can toss; it arcs through the air and can ricochet off surfaces, allowing you to hit foes from tricky angles. You can also jump on the star to ride it for a short distance, which is essential for crossing large gaps. The game is notoriously difficult, demanding precise jumps and careful star management. Playing it feels like solving a series of intricate, sometimes punishing, spatial puzzles.
