Ghoul School is one of those weird, janky NES games that somehow sticks with you. You play as Spike, this greaser-looking dude who has to fight his way through a haunted high school to save his cheerleader girlfriend. The place is packed with ghosts, possessed teachers, and demonic football players—basically every '80s horror trope stuffed into a single cartridge.
It’s not just a straight-up brawler, though. You’re crawling through over 200 rooms (yeah, it’s a lot), smashing lockers for hidden weapons and dodging some seriously cheap enemy spawns. The baseball bat’s solid, but good luck finding the flamethrower without getting lost in the maze-like hallways first. And those bosses? Let’s just say the gym teacher didn’t skip arm day before turning into a monster.
It’s clunky, it’s unfair at times, but there’s something weirdly charming about how over-the-top it all is. If you can handle the occasional cheap death, it’s a fun little time capsule of late-'80s horror cheese.
