Genjin Kotts Game

Genjin Kotts is one of those weird, charming Game Boy platformers that feels like someone threw a caveman, dinosaurs, and a bunch of slapstick into a blender. You start off bonking enemies with a club (obviously), but then things get weird—riding pterodactyls, chucking boulders at woolly mammoths, that sort of thing. The controls are a little stiff by modern standards, but once you get the hang of the jumps, it’s oddly satisfying to clobber your way through.
The pixel art has this goofy energy, like every enemy is making a dumb face at you, and the music’s got that classic Game Boy bleep-bloop charm. Some of the later levels get brutal with the platforming, but there’s a weird satisfaction in finally nailing that one jump after the fifth try. If you’re into retro stuff with personality, this one’s a fun little time capsule.
