About Gauntlet (unl)
Gauntlet on the NES was a home port of the 1985 arcade game, developed by Tengen and released without an official Nintendo license. It arrived during a time when cooperative multiplayer games were still a novelty on the console, offering a direct translation of the arcade's top-down dungeon crawling to the living room.
You control one of four fantasy characters, like the Warrior or the Valkyrie, and delve into a series of maze-like dungeons. Your main goal is simply to survive, clearing each screen of monsters while hunting for the exit. Signature mechanics include managing your health, which constantly drains over time, and collecting keys to open doors and food to restore your life. The pacing is relentless, with ghosts phasing through walls and generators endlessly spawning enemies until you destroy them. It feels like a desperate scramble for resources against an ever-present clock.
