Gauntlet Legends on N64 is one of those games that just feels like a couch co-op classic. You pick from four classes—warrior, wizard, archer, or valkyrie—and immediately dive into smashing pots for gold while skeletons pour out of every corner. The Japanese version plays the same as the US release, but something about the katakana menus gives it extra charm.
It’s chaotic in the best way, especially with friends. One of you is inevitably hoarding all the food to stay alive while another keeps accidentally shooting teammates with arrows. The levels are huge for an N64 game, packed with secret rooms and weird little traps—just don’t expect deep storytelling. Skorne’s a generic bad guy, but who cares when you’re juggling fireballs and dodging lava pits?
Pro tip: Valkyrie’s spear has stupid range, and the wizard’s spells get ridiculous if you grind enough. Just try not to argue over who gets the last turkey leg.
