Gauntlet II came out in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, published by Tengen. It was part of that wave of arcade ports trying to fit a big coin-op experience into a home cartridge, a common sight on the NES at the time.

You pick one of four characters: Warrior, Valkyrie, Wizard, or Elf. Your job is to clear out a series of maze-like dungeons, room by room, fighting ghosts, grunts, and demons. You shoot or slash your way through, constantly hunting for keys to open doors and food to keep your health from ticking down. The screen scrolls as you explore, and up to four players can join in, which turns the dungeons into a chaotic scramble for resources. The game is relentless; monsters spawn endlessly from generators until you destroy them, and your health drains second by second, pushing you to move fast. It feels like a desperate race against your own life bar in a crowded, monster-filled labyrinth.
