Gateway Game

Gateway on the Game Boy is one of those weird little puzzle-adventure games that sticks with you. At first glance, it’s just another pixelated dungeon crawler, but then you start noticing the odd details—the way doors shift positions when you’re not looking, or how certain items only appear if you backtrack at the right time. It’s got that classic "wait, how was I supposed to figure that out?" energy, but in a good way.
The puzzles are clever without being cruel, and the chiptune soundtrack nails that eerie-but-cozy Game Boy vibe. I remember getting stuck for ages on this one room where you had to drop a key down a pit, then go around to retrieve it from below—simple once it clicks, but man, did I feel dumb when I finally got it. If you’re into retro games with a bit of mystery, this one’s a solid pick.
