You control Firebrand across two distinct perspectives. You navigate the world map from an overhead view, choosing your path to towns and dungeons. Once you enter a fortress or a treacherous bridge, the game shifts to a side-scrolling action view. Your main goal is to recover the stolen fire, which involves exploring dungeons screen by screen, defeating monsters with your fire breath, and using your wings to hover over pits. You also collect magical items, like the Magic Tornado, to unlock new abilities and reach previously inaccessible areas. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the platforming challenges can be quite demanding, requiring precise jumps and attacks.
