Ganbare Goemon - Derudero Douchuu Obake Tenkomori is one of those N64 games that feels like it got lost in translation—literally. You play as Goemon, this blue-haired ninja dude with a pipe, running around feudal Japan but with all the weirdness cranked up to 11. The art style’s super colorful, like a Saturday morning cartoon, and the whole thing’s packed with dumb jokes and bizarre enemies (one boss is literally a giant sentient pickle).
Gameplay’s a mix of platforming and light puzzle-solving—you’ll be jumping across rooftops one minute, then figuring out how to trick a bunch of ghosts the next. The controls take a second to get used to, but once it clicks, it’s oddly satisfying. And yeah, the humor’s hit-or-miss if you don’t vibe with Japanese slapstick, but there’s something charming about how unapologetically silly it all is.
Definitely not for everyone, but if you like your action games with a side of absurdity, this one’s a hidden gem.
