Galg (or Zunou Senkan Galg if you want the full Japanese title) is one of those NES shooters that never made it outside Japan—which is a shame, because it’s got this weird, almost mechanical charm to it. You’re piloting a ship through tight corridors of enemy fire, dodging waves of geometric-looking baddies that feel like they’re straight out of an old arcade cabinet.

At first glance, it seems like your standard vertical scroller, but there’s something oddly satisfying about the way your shots ricochet off walls. The power-ups are simple—no crazy transformations here—but the level design keeps you on your toes with sudden ambushes and narrow escapes. And yeah, the music’s got that classic Famicom chiptune energy, all bleeps and bloops in the best way.

It’s not the most polished shooter out there, but if you’re into obscure retro stuff, Galg’s worth a few runs just for the vibe alone.
