About Galaxy 5000
Galaxy 5000 came out for the NES in 1991, published by Activision. It was part of that wave of late NES releases where developers were trying new things with the hardware, pushing into genres that were a bit different from the usual platformers and action games.
You control a small, top down hover car and race on single screen tracks against other vehicles. The main goal is to finish first in a series of planetary circuits. Your car has a limited fuel supply that drains as you drive; you must collect fuel canisters scattered on the track to avoid running out. You also pick up weapons to temporarily disable your opponents, knocking them out for a few seconds. The races are fast and the tracks are tight, making collisions frequent. It feels like a frantic scramble to manage your resources while fighting for position.
