About Gb Genjin
I first played GB Genjin on my Game Boy in 1990, a time when portable games were mostly simple puzzlers. Hudson Soft released this one, and it stood out for trying to bring a full action-adventure into your hands. It felt ambitious for the hardware, a little world in a cartridge.
You control a small caveman named Genjin, navigating from screen to screen across a prehistoric landscape. Your main goal is to rescue your kidnapped girlfriend, which involves traveling through forests, caves, and enemy camps. You use a bone as a club to fight off dinosaurs and other creatures; you can also pick up and throw eggs that hatch into helpful, temporary animal companions. The game is methodical, requiring you to clear each screen of enemies before you can proceed, and the difficulty is steady, sometimes unforgiving. It feels like a careful, deliberate trek through a dangerous land.
