Okay, so Frankenstein: The Monster Returns is one of those classic NES side-scrollers where you play as some random dude trying to save a girl from Frankenstein’s monster—because apparently, the guy just couldn’t stay dead. Right off the bat, you’re thrown into this gloomy village overrun with zombies, skeletons, and other nightmare fuel. Not exactly a warm welcome.

The controls are simple—jump, slash, repeat—but some of those enemies hit harder than you’d expect. I remember getting wrecked by a floating skull my first time because I didn’t realize you had to crouch-slash it. The levels get weirder too, with haunted forests and creepy castles that feel straight out of a B-movie. And yeah, the final showdown with Frankie himself? Let’s just say stock up on health potions.

It’s not the deepest game, but there’s something oddly satisfying about hacking through waves of undead with a tiny sword. Just don’t expect a happy ending—this is Frankenstein we’re talking about.
