Formula One: Built to Win is one of those NES racers that starts you off with a total underdog car—a Mini Cooper, of all things—and makes you work for every upgrade. You’ll be grinding through street races in New York and Detroit first, barely keeping up, but winning gets you better parts, and eventually, way faster cars like the Ferrari F40 and the actual Formula 1. Feels pretty satisfying when you finally ditch the Mini.

The tracks are all over the US, from Miami’s tight turns to the wide-open stretches near Yellowstone. Free Mode lets you skip the grind and just pick any car to race solo, but the real meat is Normal Mode, where you’re fighting traffic and scraping together wins to move up. It’s got that classic ‘80s racing game vibe where the handling takes some getting used to, but once it clicks, you’ll be hooked. Just don’t expect anything forgiving—this game plays for keeps.
