About Flying Warriors
Flying Warriors came out in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by Culture Brain. It was part of that era on the NES where developers were mixing genres, trying to create something that felt bigger than a standard side-scroller or a simple fighter.
You control a martial artist named Ken, and your goal is to rescue a kidnapped girl by defeating the evil organization that took her. The game shifts between different styles of play. You explore areas screen by screen, fighting enemies with punches and kicks in a side-view brawler format. Then, it switches to one-on-one martial arts duels against bosses, which play out like a simple fighting game. You also take to the skies in shooter segments where you fly on a cloud and fire projectiles at airborne enemies. The pacing is uneven, and the difficulty can spike suddenly, especially during the boss fights. Playing it feels like navigating a compilation of three different, slightly janky games stitched into one adventure.
