About Flipull (japan)
Flipull came out for the Game Boy in 1990 from Taito. It was one of those many puzzle games that filled the portable's library, a time when simple, repeatable concepts were key. You would see it alongside other logic games, a quiet contender in a sea of tiles and blocks.
You control a cursor to select and remove pairs of matching colored blocks from a grid. The main objective is to clear each screen completely before a timer runs out. Two signature mechanics define the play: you can only remove blocks that have at least one exposed side, and clearing blocks causes the entire column above them to drop down, often creating new matches. The pacing starts methodical but the stages get tighter, demanding quicker decisions as the layouts become more complex. It feels like a constant, quiet negotiation with gravity and order.
