About Flintstones, The - The Rescue Of Dino & Hoppy (japan)
I picked up The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy for the NES back in 1991. Taito published it, and it was one of many licensed platformers from that era. The story is straightforward: a villain from the future kidnaps Fred's pets, Dino and Hoppy, and a little alien named Gazoo shows up to help Fred get them back.
You control Fred Flintstone through a series of side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to collect the scattered parts of Gazoo's time machine. You run, jump across platforms, and use Fred's signature club to smash enemies and break open rocks. The game is structured around exploring different time periods, each with its own visual theme and enemies. You collect items like bones and fruit to restore health, and the levels are filled with pits and tricky jumps. The difficulty is consistent with many NES games of the time, requiring precise timing and patience. It feels like a solid, if sometimes challenging, cartoon adventure.
