About Flintstones, The - The Rescue Of Dino & Hoppy
I remember picking up The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy for the NES back in 1991. It was published by Taito, and it felt like a pretty standard licensed platformer for its time, the kind of game you'd rent for a weekend. The story is simple: a villain from the future kidnaps Fred's pets, Dino and Hoppy, and a little alien named Gazoo shows up to help you get them back.
You control Fred Flintstone through a series of side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to collect the scattered pieces of a time machine to advance. The gameplay involves a lot of jumping between platforms and using your club to smash enemies and break open certain blocks. You also collect bones, which act as both health and currency for buying items in shops between stages. The levels can be quite long and the enemy placement is often tricky, making for a challenging experience. It feels like a straightforward but demanding quest to push through each area.
