About Flintstones, The - King Rock Treasure Island (usa, Europe)
I picked up The Flintstones: King Rock Treasure Island for the Game Boy back in 1993. It was published by Taito, one of many licensed games trying to capture the cartoon's feel on the small screen. During that era, a portable adventure with Fred felt like a natural fit, a simple quest you could take anywhere.
You control Fred Flintstone through a series of side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to find pieces of a treasure map scattered across the island. The gameplay involves a lot of jumping between platforms and using Fred's club to smash rocks and enemies like dinosaurs and cavemen. You also collect items like bones and gems, which are used to open new paths or purchase helpful items from shops. The pacing is methodical, with some tricky jumps and enemy placements that can make progress slow. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes challenging platformer where you are just trying to piece everything together.
