Fleet Commander Vs. (japan) Game

Fleet Commander VS. is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that never left Japan—which is a shame, because it's a surprisingly solid strategy game. You're basically juggling a fleet of ships, moving them around grid-based maps, and trying to outmaneuver the enemy. The controls take a minute to get used to (classic Game Boy button mapping), but once it clicks, you start seeing all these little tactical possibilities.
What I like is how stripped-down it feels—no fluff, just clean turn-based battles where positioning matters way more than brute force. The pixel art’s simple but charming, with these chunky ship sprites that somehow make naval warfare feel oddly cute. If you’re into retro strategy games, this one’s worth digging up.
