I remember picking up Flash for the Game Boy back in 1992. It was published by Ocean Software, a company that put out a lot of licensed games for the handheld. At the time, having a superhero game you could take anywhere felt like a novelty, even if the graphics were simple by today's standards. You control Barry Allen, the Flash, as he runs through side scrolling stages. Your main goal is to stop the Trickster, who has planted bombs all over the city. The core of the game is running fast; you build up momentum to smash through certain walls and obstacles. You also punch and kick enemies, and you need to find keys to unlock doors that block your path. The levels are fairly linear, but the constant running gives it a quick pace, though the controls can feel a bit stiff when you need to make precise jumps. It feels like a straightforward dash from one end of the stage to the other, trying to beat the clock before everything explodes.
