About Flash
I first played Flash on the original Game Boy, a cartridge with no release year printed on it. It was published by Nintendo, though I don't recall the developer. The game appeared during that early period for the handheld, a time when many titles were simple, single-screen action puzzles designed for short bursts of play.
You control a small character, moving screen by screen through a multi-level tower. Your main goal is to reach the top, but each floor is a self-contained puzzle. Your primary tool is a flashbulb; you use it to stun the enemies that roam the rooms. The key mechanic is that you must collect all the keys on a screen before the exit door will open, and you have to do this while avoiding the patrolling foes, who revive after a short time if you don't exit quickly. The pacing is methodical, requiring you to observe enemy patterns and plan your route to grab keys without getting cornered. It feels like a tense, quiet game of cat and mouse played out on a tiny green screen.
