Final Lap on the Famicom is basically Namco’s arcade racer squeezed into an NES cartridge—and honestly, it holds up better than you’d expect. You’ve got three tracks (Monaco, Suzuka, and Fuji), and the handling’s surprisingly tight for an 8-bit racer. No fancy power-ups or gimmicks—just you, a steering wheel that somehow feels responsive despite the D-pad, and the occasional pixelated crowd cheering as you skid around corners.
It’s one of those games where you’ll restart a dozen times just to shave half a second off your lap. The AI cars don’t mess around either—they’ll nudge you into the guardrails if you’re not careful. And yeah, it’s Japan-only, but the menus are simple enough that you don’t need to read Japanese to play. Just don’t expect a deep career mode or anything; this is pure arcade racing, straight from 1987.
