About Fighting Cup
Fighting Cup came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was one of many 3D fighting games on the system during that period, trying to find its place alongside more established titles. The game offered a simple premise and a small roster of characters to choose from before diving into its main mode.
You control a fighter in a series of one-on-one battles across different 3D arenas. The main goal is to defeat all opponents to win the tournament cup. The combat relies on a combination of basic punches, kicks, and special moves executed with directional inputs. A unique mechanic is the ability to pick up weapons that occasionally appear on the stage, like a sword or a hammer, changing the flow of a match. The pacing is generally fast, and the difficulty can spike sharply against later computer opponents. Playing it feels like a straightforward, sometimes clumsy, attempt at arcade-style combat on the N64.
