About Field Combat (japan)
Field Combat came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, a release from Jaleco. It was one of many military themed games from that period on the NES, focusing on straightforward action rather than complex storylines.
You control a lone soldier viewed from above, moving through outdoor battlefields screen by screen. Your goal is to eliminate all enemy soldiers in each area before you can advance. You have a standard rifle for direct shots, but the main mechanic involves ricocheting bullets off the edges of the screen to hit foes hiding behind barriers. You also collect power-ups that change your weapon, like a three way shot. The game moves at a quick pace and the difficulty escalates sharply as you progress, with enemies swarming from all directions. Navigating the small, boxy stages while calculating angles for your shots makes for a tense and methodical experience.
