About Family Trainer - Totsugeki! Fuuun Takeshi Jou (japan)
Family Trainer: Totsugeki! Fuuun Takeshi Jou came out in 1986 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, published by Bandai. It was part of a wave of games that used the Family Trainer mat controller, a peripheral that turned your living room floor into a controller. This title was a Japan-only release, a game show obstacle course challenge themed around the popular host Takeshi Kitano.
You control a contestant running through a series of physical challenges. The main objective is to complete the entire course as quickly as possible without failing any of the events. You run in place on the mat to move your character forward, and you jump by pressing the mat's buttons with your feet. Specific obstacles require different actions, like ducking under barriers or carefully balancing on narrow beams. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty comes from the physical coordination needed to translate your body movements into on-screen success. It feels like a genuine workout, a mix of exhaustion and triumph when you finally clear a tricky section.
