About Family Trainer - Manhattan Police (japan)
Family Trainer: Manhattan Police came out in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, published by Bandai. It was part of that wave of games designed around the Family Trainer mat, a peripheral that turned your living room floor into a controller. This one put you in the shoes of a police officer, a different kind of physical challenge compared to the athletic games usually bundled with the mat.
You control a police officer navigating a city map screen by screen. Your main objective is to chase down and capture a thief before your energy depletes. The core mechanics are all tied to the mat; you run in place to move your character across the map, and you perform a specific jump on the mat's panels to apprehend the criminal when you finally corner him. The pacing is frantic because the thief is always moving, and your energy drains steadily, creating a constant race against the clock. It feels like a frantic, exhausting foot chase translated into a living room workout.
