Famicom Shougi - Ryuuousen is one of those old-school NES shogi games that feels like digging up a relic—in a good way. If you've ever played traditional Japanese chess, this one sticks pretty close to the rules, but with that classic 8-bit charm. The board’s simple, the pieces are blocky, and the AI isn’t too brutal (unless you crank up the difficulty).

First thing you’ll notice? The kanji on the pieces—no fancy graphics here, just pure, unfiltered shogi. Took me a minute to get used to it, but there’s something satisfying about moving those little pixelated generals around. No hand-holding, though—if you don’t know how to play, you’re gonna have a rough time. But if you’re into strategy or just love retro oddities, it’s a neat little time capsule.

Also, the title screen music is weirdly catchy. You’ve been warned.
