About Famicom Meijin Sen (japan)
Famicom Meijin Sen was a Japan only Nintendo Entertainment System release from Nintendo. It arrived during the console's peak years, a time when many traditional board games were being adapted for home play. This title focused specifically on Shogi, a Japanese strategy game similar to chess.
You control the cursor to move Shogi pieces across the board, aiming to checkmate your opponent's king. The game features a two player versus mode and the ability to challenge computer controlled opponents of varying difficulty. A key mechanic is the dropping of captured pieces back onto the board as your own, which constantly shifts the strategic balance. Matches require careful forward planning and can become quite difficult against stronger AI. It feels like a direct, no frills translation of the classic board game to the console.
